The Vatican Grottoes

This volume presents the restoration work recently completed in the Vatican Grottoes thanks to the support of the Knights of Columbus. For more than 20 years, they have been giving their contribution to the conservation, embellishment and restoration of the greatest temple of Christendom.
The work, coordinated and directed by the Fabbrica di San Pietro, made possible the cleaning, consolidation and restoration of the important pictorial decoration in the semi-circular corridor around the Confession and in the chapels dedicated to the Madonna della Bocciata and the Madonna delle Partorienti.
Printed in limited edition, this volume presents the origins and the history of the Vatican grottoes, which constitute an integral part of the sacred space of the Basilica.
The iconographic research and artistic editing were carried out by Pietro Zander and the graphic designs by Marco C. Mastrolorenzi.
