 | “Attack on the World Trade Center: September 11, 2001” September 11, 2002 through September 11, 2003
The entire upper lobby was transformed into a memorial for those who were killed at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania during four coordinated terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. A Wall of Headlines displayed the front pages of newspapers and magazines that covered the massacre of nearly 3,000 people. The focus of the memorial was the Heroes Fund established by the Knights of Columbus that provided immediate support to the families of rescue workers lost in the attacks. Individual profiles of those who died on that fateful day included 45 members of the Knights of Columbus, numerous rescue workers and residents of Connecticut. Artifacts included items of member firefighters lost in the WTC, and twisted girders from the collapsed towers. |
