 | Works on the Facade of St. Peter’s Basilica 1986 This volume celebrates the restoration of the more than 10,000 square meters of the façade of the Basilica of Saint Peter. Photographic illustrations show the signs left by time from the 350 or more years since the façade of the Vatican Basilica was completed and the interventions of consolidation and restoration carried out, including the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul positioned at the foot of the stairs at the entrance of the Basilica. As an expression of gratitude, Pontiff John Paul II gave the Order of the Knights of Columbus the gigantic cross which had been held in the arms of Christ Redeemer for more than 370 years placed at the summit of the façade. Today, the cross holds a place of honor in the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven. |
